Construction progress – New Manzoni Bridge

Work continues on the construction of the new Manzoni Bridge along State Road SS36, a strategic infrastructure for mobility between Lecco and Pescate and part of the modernization works in preparation for the 2026 Milano-Cortina Winter Olympics.

The 772-metre-long bridge runs alongside the existing one and will enable the expansion of State Road 36 with an additional traffic lane toward Pescate-Lecco and a dedicated cycle path.

Steel Project Engineering developed the structural Executive Design of the Variant for the bridge and access ramps on behalf of Aleandri SpA, the contractor, and the erection and launching design of the steel decks on behalf of MBM SpA, the steelwork fabricator.

The bridge consists of three independent composite steel-concrete decks with main spans up to 100 m crossing the Adda River, extensively using Corten steel for decks, precast slabs, and side parapets — a material chosen for its durability and harmonious landscape integration.

The erection phases included nose-launching for the two 100-m river spans and bottom-up lifting for the remaining approach spans on both the Pescate and Lecco sides.

This achievement confirms that, even in complex operating conditions and confined work areas, targeted and coordinated design ensures compliance with schedules and full construction efficiency.
