New Bridge over the Martesana – Metrotram 7
During the month of August, the installation of the new bridges over the Martesana canal in Milan was completed, as part of the extension of Metrotram Line 7 between Crescenzago and Cascina Gobba.
These are two 35-meter-long steel decks, each weighing approximately 135 tons, designed respectively for the tramway line and for road traffic. The bridges were lifted and installed in a single hoist using a large-capacity lattice boom mobile crane.
Steel Project Engineering, on behalf of #BIT S.p.A., was responsible for the construction design and erection engineering of the two lifted decks, as well as the design of a multi-span truss pedestrian and cycle bridge, still to be installed.
An important step for sustainable mobility in Milan: completion of works is expected in 2026, with service activation planned for 2027.
